By dancing as a female figure with dramatic makeup, mysterious face, and scarred cheeks, I was expressing and releasing the pain and suffering inside my body. Somehow an alluring yet hauntingly innocent beauty was revealed.

我带着戏剧化的妆容,神秘的脸庞,和伤痕累累的脸颊,以一个女性的形象舞蹈,我舒展着肢体,又表达和释放着我身体内在的痛苦。一种迷人的,但令人难以忘怀的纯真之美就这样展现出来了。

From another perspective, it’s the creation of art, collaborating with a sensitive artist/photographer who has directed the use of lighting and elements of the makeup and apparel, as well as elements of movement, while still letting me flow freely within the frame. The photo-shoot employed the human body, makeup, special headwear, and costume to express emotions and feelings common to the human experience —— love and fear; the pursuit of truth, and demonization; needing help while feeling woe and doubting human nature; trusting the ghosts and spirits instead; being mischievous and alluring; doubting what is shown on the surface in this 3-D reality; creating an illusion and playing with it…

During the process of the dance, it’s perfectly allowing the body movements to express the emotions flowing with the heart, about totally trusting in oneself, the body and the photographer… in fact, as quoted from the photographer Martin Gray, “It was fun making these pictures with Yiru. Playing with light and mood and shape and form, to mystical and mysterious effect. There is such power in imagination. We should embrace it when we can.”

在舞蹈的过程中,是完美地让身体的动作表达出内心流动的情感,是对自己的身体、对摄影师的完全信任。事实上,正如摄影师Martin Gray所说,“和Yiru一起进行这场拍摄很有趣,我们玩儿光线、玩儿情绪、形状和形式,达到神秘而又超凡的效果。想象力就是有这样的力量。我们应该把握机会拥抱它。”

Imagination is real. What we imagine is actually happening. That is how powerful our minds are. Initially, what we imagine happens in the non-physical dimension.If we then imagine the same thing repeatedly, and particularly if we infuse strong emotions into the image, we may draw it into our physical experience.

During the dance, somehow I felt I was much more than this human, this one body mind. I am also my soul.

When I was viewed as this one body mind only, I was often seen as flawed, limited, and lacking in power and worth. Re-membering oneself as a soul means calling what we are infinitely powerful, and of infinite worth.

当我仅仅被视为拥有一个身体的心智,我常常被认为是有缺陷的,是很局限,缺乏力量和价值。重新忆起自己做一个灵魂的存在,意味着召唤出那个拥有无限的力量,无限的价值的自己。

Indeed, that is the truth. There is nothing that is flawed, or to be fixed. There never is. It simply seems to be that way because of mental judgements that have to do with the human collective. Individuals constantly find themselves faced with value systems, with beliefs and judgements that do not correspond to theirs. They therefore think of themselves as bad or wrong. Part of the process of re-membering is to understand one’s full responsibility for the creation of one’s own life and stop making such self-judgements.

Most of us have moments where we feel small or unimportant, in which we wonder about the true value of ourselves, and whether what we are doing is of real enduring importance.

我们每个人都会有些时刻,感觉自己是渺小或者不重要的,我们会怀疑自己真实的价值,怀疑我们正在做的事情是否真的有持久的意义。

You matter. You are vitally important. It is through you, the physical self, that your soul and by extension the entire universe, evolves. I believe that each one of our thoughts, words, and actions is shaping and reshaping the reality of our body, and its frequencies are vibrating towards the whole planet earth and entire universe, effecting the evolution of the entire world – even you cannot see its effect instantly with your five senses.

你是有影响的,你是非常非常重要的。就是通过你,这个物质的你,你的灵魂以及整个宇宙正在演进。我相信我们的每一个思想,每一个言语以及行动都是在不断塑造和重塑着我们自己身体的现实。而这所有的震动所产生的频率扩散向整个地球和整个宇宙,影响着整个世界的演进,即使我们现在无法用自己的五感来感知到这些变化。

The purpose of showing the scars and expressing the wounds is to heal, but to heal from this point of view is to “make whole again”. To see as one, which has been previously seen as separate.

Healing results in the serenity of permitting…allowing. Allowing is a form of pre-mastering, just as during our process of making the art of the dance and the photographs —— I am not a professional dancer, and I only learned to dance through looking at the dancer on the screen and then allowing myself to dance freely with the flow of my emotions and feelings of the body. I never learnt how to collaborate with photographers either, but we made the perfect artistic pictures together by playing with light and shape creatively, during which we discovered a “perfect allowing”.

One will never arrive at mastering the creative process without allowing whatever happens during the creative process. Therefore, allowing a low frequency emotion is as important as allowing a high-frequency emotion, in order to ride ways where there arevery high, and very low emotions. The goal was not to even out, which unfortunately seems to be the goal for many humans who use medications. The goal was to arrive at a point where one could be joyful and excited at even very low emotional frequency. The purpose was for her to ride up and down and then dis-engage with it, so that she is fine with whatever will be.
